Canceled: Maeve Gilchrist

  • The Savoy Denver 2700 Arapahoe Street Denver, CO, 80205 (map)

It is with regret that, due to circumstances beyond our control, this event has been canceled.

Maeve Gilchrist is a phenomenal Celtic harpist and folk musician who has taken the instrument to new levels of performance and visibility; an artist that “can make her instrument ring with unparalleled purity”. Gilchrist’s Denver-debut promises new music, folkloric storytelling, and musical collaboration with New York-based guitarist, Kyle Sana.

Gilchrist has released five albums to date, including her latest, The Harpweaver (2020), hailed by the Irish times in it’s five-star review as “buoyant, sprightly and utterly beguiling... a snapshot of a musician at the top of her game". The album is an invitation to suspend time and place and step into a richly imaginative world which may resonate notes of familiarity and comfort regardless of cultural background. For the album, Gilchrist steps into her own as a composer and producer to illuminate her roots as a traditional folk musician through the prism of luscious string parts, electronic manipulation, and an archived recitation of The Ballad of the Harpweaver, by Jazz-Age, Pulitzer-winning poet, Edna St Vincent Millay. The album is neo-folk at its finest.

Originally from Scotland, Gilchrist has been making her mark as an inventive and accomplished harpist in the US for the last seventeen years through her collaborations with artists such as Ambrose Akinmusire, The Silkroad Project, Nic Gareiss, Viktor Krauss, Darol Anger, Solas and Okkyung Lee.

Gilchrist’s other albums include Vignette (2017) with bassist Viktor Krauss, and a self-released solo album, The Ostinato Project, a beguiling exploration of the possibilities of her instrument. In 2018, Gilchrist was a featured soloist on the Dreamworks blockbuster movie soundtrack, How to Tame Your Dragon: The Hidden World.
